How to Make a Cherry Pie and See the USA
By JULIETTE ROSSANT Give geography, chemistry, geology, and cooking all in one fun, exciting tour of the United States that's all about making a cherry pie. That's what you get in Marjorie Priceman's How to Make a Cherry Pie and See the U.S.A. (Knopf 2008). The recipe for Cherry Pie comes first – that is the easy part. The rest of the book is about the adventure finding all the things needed to make the pie (everything but the food). The little girl who will make the pie needs a bowl (clay from New Mexico), a pie pan (coal from a Pennsylvania mine), a rolling pin (wood from Washington), a measuring cup (sand from Hawaii), a pastry slab (granite from New Hampshire), a set of spoons (plastic from Texas oil) and some pot holders (cotton from a farm in Louisiana). The colorful illustrations take her across the states, exploring monuments and historical facts along the way. Then, she's got to make all the equipment. There is a map of the USA so children can follow her progress – or take an imaginary trip of their own – then make a pie! Bet that cherry (pumpkin, pecan, cranberry or whatever) pie will taste awfully good after all that work! If your little one wants to make Apple Pie - well, that is another book!Previous articles: [Childrens Cookbook Reviews - complete] Technorati Tags: superchefblog, Juliette Rossant, super chef, celebrities, chefs, food, restaurants, cooking, branding, cuisine, blogging, food blogging --> back to Super Chef |
