Zarela's Altar of the Dead

Zarela Martinez always takes special care on the Day of the Dead (Los Dias de los Muertos) at her New York restaurant Zarela.

This year she is dedicating the Altar of the Dead to actor Paul Newman. Newman and his family were customers and friends of the restaurant:
One of the greatest thrills in Zarela Restaurant history was having the Newmans celebrate their daughter Clea's graduation here. I've kept in touch with their oldest daughter, Nell over the years and watched her grow Newman's Own into a thriving company that's popularized organic healthy snacks and other foods and has made the world a better place through it's various charitable efforts. We dedicate our Altar of the Dead to honor and celebrate Paul Newman for all he was and always will be and the joy that he brought to so many people.
From October 31st to November 6th Zarela will feature Newman's favorite foods: spare ribs, corn chowder and oysters along with her wonderful Mexican dishes.
