Bee-bim Bop! Linda Sue Park
By JULIETTE ROSSANT The bouncy little girl, hungry and happy, helping to fix dinner keeps Bee-bim Bop! (Houghton Mifflin 2008) bouncing along. But what makes Linda Sue Park's book so good is that there is a recipe at the end. The whole book can be acted out by following the recipe - from shopping, to fixing the eggs, meat and vegetables, to setting the table and enjoying the dish. The illustrations by Ho Baek Lee are clear and help the reader follow the action. Water looks like water when it falls on the floor. The little girl chants: Sorry, Mama, sorryShow your young reader the picture at the end of the book of the author with her niece and nephew in the kitchen making Bee-bim bop and they'll get the idea –reading about foods from different lands is fun - and eating them is even better.
