Newsweek Finds Cris Comerford
By JULIETTE ROSSANT ![]() Newsweek Magazine decided to have a "Fast Chat" with White House executive chef Cris Comerford. The questions were engaging -- about creativity, ethnic food, likes and dislikes. ![]() You can imagine that Cris was politic in her replies, particularly in a White House rife with Plame leaks (see Washington Post) and Libby prosecution (see Atlantic) but also now determined to stop leaks it does not like (see Financial Times), following the outcry against NSA internal spying reported by The New York Times (see Commentary). ![]() The resignation of pastry chef Thaddeus DuBois, who stayed on staff less than two years, to return to his previous job at the Borgata Hotel Casine & Spa in Atlantic City in Atlantic City, seems comment enough, at least for The International Herald Tribune. Abandonment is spreading far beyond the White House Kitchen: Andrew Card just resigned this morning as White House chief of staff (see previous article). Not that Thaddeus is in the same league as Mr. Card, in any sense. One note: isn't it an understatement to call Cris the first woman executive chef at the White House "since the Kennedys turned the job into a high-profile statement of personal style"? In fact, isn't she the first executive chef ever at the White House? For that matter, isn't she the first ever minority (Filipino-American)? Superchefblog found the Newsweek's downplay mystifying.
