Gordon Ramsay v James Bond
By JULIETTE ROSSANT ![]() Roger Moore, a former James Bond, narrated a film used by anti-foie gras campaigners to ban foie gras in Chicago (see latest article). Moore has also joined the People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in striking out with criticism of British restaurants for serving fattened duck and goose liver. Former footballer and super chef Gordon Ramsay isn't dodging 007's punch. In fact, true to Ramsay style, Gordie has dubbed Moore a "hypocrite," reports UK-based ContactMusic: I think it's a bit two-faced of old Roger. At the height of his fame he had no scruples about swanning round top restaurants eating fancy food, and now he's telling us we all have to be goody two-shoes.(Be sure to check out this BBC article about Roger Moore's rating of Gordon Ramsay a few years back.) Doesn't it figure that anti-foie gras campaigners got only Roger Moore to speak out? Who could imagine a "real man" (and a "man's man") like Sean Connery going squeamish over foie gras? "My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit." (Goldfinger 1964).Real hysteria is there, no doubt, attested by this recent letter in respondse a recent The Times of London article: Was Roger Moore passing your severed head to Michael Caine for an Italian job? Was the rest of your body donated to gastronomic medical research? But let's get to the heart of the matter, shall we?
