Gordon Ramsay: Women Can't Cook
By JULIETTE ROSSANT Super chef Gordon Ramsay may be famous for cursing, but now he's really stuck his foot in his mouth, by claiming that younger British women are not just bad cooks but "can't cook to save their lives" -- unable to prepare anything beyond cocktails and readymade grocery meals, according to the UK's Telegraph, as he wraps up filming for a new TV show, The F Word (debuting Thursday, October 27, on Channel 4)."I have been visiting ladies' houses up and down the country with our film crew and you'd be amazed how little cooking the girls are doing," he said, according to the British rag. "When they eat, they cheat - it's ready meals and pre-prepared meals all the way. No comment yet from Gordon's wife, Tana, who is the cook in the Ramsay house for Gordon and their four children. No matter that, according to The Telegraph, the number of female chefs has risen regularly for years and including Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray at River Cafe (Hammersmith) and Ramsay protegee, Angela Hartnett at the Connaught (Mayfair). And what about the Two Fat Ladies? Outrage has already spread to Australia, where women chefs are retorting hotly in Sydney Morning Herald, The Brisbane Courier, and News.com (a NewsCorp company). Many women in British cooking have replied, including Tamasin Day-Lewis and Nigella Lawson, all of which The Telegraph merrily relates, including expletives that show that women are indeed able to compete with Gordon on all levels, so be sure to read the full article.Knives may stay out to cut up Gordo: he also recently lost the top spot in the 2006 SMG Good Food Guide (see article). Regardless, all of this should make for good reading in his upcoming autobiography for HarperCollins (see article). Gordon just loves controversy. I also remember a fantastic lady chef winning BBCs Master Chef who herself was competing against another woman following many elimination rounds...where did the men go. Also we should remember that woman have often a biological advantage...their toungues can ofter sense taste better than men's. Women are definately pushing through in professional kitchens more and more, into that old Napoleonic-ruled world that is slowly changing from an overdose of testosterone to a more oestrogenated environment. Slowly....
And who fed little Gordy when he was a wee child? His daddy? Good grief. Wonder how many women he's actually visited...who served him those ready meals.
Perhaps women are smart enough to let men cook for them? I'd say absolutely if they claim to do it better, let them. Now that's not as far fetched as Gordy may think, since he considers himself the best chef in the house.
Cheers to little Gordy...who may have starved had it not been for his mum's milk and terrible cooking.

What was he hoping to gain by making such an inane comment? Stupid. And to think I sort of liked him.
I fail to see what average young women not being able to cook has to do with female professional chefs. Note that Ramsay didn't say "females are genetically inept at cooking", but "a lot of young women these days haven't learned to cook". And for the record, Nigella Lawson shouldn't be making any comments about her cooking skill, which amounts to following recipes at snail's pace.
I for one know exactly what Gordon means...ask some 18 to 25 year old female to make a basic homemade soup and they'll run down to the shop and buy a can and open it and boil the poop out of it and plonk some bread next to it and say, "I cooked it"
Now pay attention...I said SOME not ALL. My own sister couldn't boil water without it burning...too easy these days for most women who say they don't have time to cook. Grab a pre-prepared frozen meal and zap it in the microwave and yum yum tons of salt and sugar, loads of empty calories...Mmm..that'll fill me up!
Gordon is not about controversy, he just sees and says it like it is. Who actually polishes their shoes these days? If people can get out of doing something hard, they will. He just gets worked up and forgets to use the words like; minority, or most, or some...
You gotta admit, his recipes are really yum...and I am a woman who doesn't have time to cook! Make the effort, you really will taste the difference.
I think he's dead on! Speaking as a 29 year old women, most of my friends CANNOT cook and depend on their husbands to make the meals. I feel blessed that my mother took the time to show me how to cook whereas many of my friends never did. Good for you Gordon.
Well, duh, isn't he right?
He didn't say ALL women can't cook, nor that they are taste, talent or otherwise cooking-disabled. Simply most of them can't cook, because they didn't bother to learn.
Where's the controversy? It's just sad facts.
