SOS: Katrina Benefit
By JULIETTE ROSSANT Share Our Strength (SOS) is holding a Hurricane Katrina Benefit at the National Building Museum on October 17, 2005, in Washington, DC, during their national Conference of Leaders (October 15-18, 2005). 100% of the funds raised will go to local organizations directly assisting victims in the areas affected by the hurricane. Delta Airlines, Inc., the official airline sponsor for the evening’s event, will be donating tickets to help bring in many of these chefs.Chefs who have already agreed to participate include Mary Sue Milliken of Border Grill and Ciudad (Los Angeles) and Allen Susser of Chef Allen’s in Miami (click here for a full list of chefs, which will be published shortly). Bill Shore, Founder and Executive Director of Share Our Strength, said: Share Our Strength is responding to this tragedy by doing what we do best. We’re mobilizing the best chefs in the country, including many from the south, for this event. Against a catastrophe of this scale, it sometimes seems impossible to do anything that feels significant, but it’s also clear that every effort helps and so I'm inspired by how many people have contacted us wanting urgently to share their strengths at this moment.Funds raised will help provide desperately needed immediate and long term care as well as restaurant industry relief and rebuilding efforts. Tickets are $250: also, there is an online donation page.
