Supreme Court Justice: White House Chef
By JULIETTE ROSSANT Yesterday's Washington Post ran an article that tied the recent nomination of John Roberts as the next Supreme Court justice to the White House executive chef selection process (outlined by superchefblog in a recent article). The Post wrote: On the last day of June, President Bush hosted a dinner party in the executive mansion. He was trying out a prospective new White House chef, who served squab, Texas kobe sirloin steak, salad and a chocolate mango-tango tart for dessert. Around the table were a couple of senators, a couple of House members, a couple of ambassadors and some spouses.Superchefblog sources say the Post article did not reflect the complexity of the menu, nor a Bush Family palate more sophisticated than hot dogs and pretzels. Here is a more accurate menu listing: While Louisiana's Senator David Vitter urged the President to consider New Orleans federal appeals judge, Edith Brown Clement for the fiercely rumored slot-to-be, Mr. Bush already knew that next morning, July 1, a letter would be arriving, revealing that one of the justices would indeed be stepping down that day. Chefs were reported trying out in April and May this year, but a try-out at the end of June makes it sound like the White House is in a new round of searching -- Mrs. Bush, let us know whether we may help!
