PBS: Save Julia Child's TV Channel!
By JULIETTE ROSSANT Who is the Queen of PBS? Julia Child, of course. Now, the U.S. House of Representatives is taking steps to remove $100 Million for the budget of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the major funder of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).I say, "Foodies of the world, unite! We cannot lose our Julia Child TV channel!"You ask, "What can I do?"And MoveOn.org has the answer: sign their online petition. MoveOn.org claims to have received 300,000 signatures on the first day of the petition -- but Americans number nearly 300 million (that means Congress wants to save us taxpayers about $0.33 on every $1.33 paid to CPB for PBS programming -- surely we can all afford $0.33 extra a year for PBS programming!) Within just a few days, the number of signatures has risen to 626,554 (as of this hour) -- but many, many more are needed. How can you ask this of people, after criticizing Cooking Under Fire?
Easily -- I hold the bar higher for PBS than I do other networks!
