White House Chef: Fat Lady Sings?

Gannet's The Shreveport Times reported yesterday that Chris Ward, "a former Shreveporter[,] is in the running to become executive chef at the White House" and did indeed apply for the job and cook for the President and First Lady.As other newspapers have already reported, former White House executive pastry chef Roland Mesnier recommended Ward to the Bush Family. Also, The Times noted, Laura Bush has dined at one of Ward's restaurants, though it did not specify how recently. (Click here to read the full article.) According to superchefblog's sources, which include top organizations recommending chefs, the White House went silent a few weeks back. And superchefblog dares to ask: who backs Chris Ward's candidacy? Can a chef just "apply" for the job -- in this or any other White House? Or does it take big-time supporters?...
