Profile: Suzanne Goin for White House Chef

Suzanne GoinSuzanne Goin was born and raised in Los Angeles. She is chef/owner of three Los Angeles restaurant: Lucques, A.O.C., and The Hungry Cat, which she is opened in February with her husband and chef David Lentz (formerly chef of Opaline).

Who were Suzanne's mentors? "Alice Waters of Chef Panisse, George Germon and Johanne Killen, chefs of Al Forno in Rhode Island, and cookbook author Paula Wolfert."

Does she like cooking for large crowds? Yes, but not catering.

Where can people catch Suzanne in the Media of late? "Mark Bittman’s new show on PBS, and the Chefs 'A Field show, also on PBS."

Currently, what are some favorite dishes? "Suckling pig with saffron farro-lentil pilaf and date-lime jam; lamb kibbeh with kumquat-spring onion-mint salad, harissa and fenugreek yogurt"

Were the White House to give her the nod as the first woman Executive Chef, what would be the first very thing she would say? "Do I have complete
control over my purveyors -- can I buy from farmers?"
