Profile: Anita Lo for White House Chef

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Anita LoBorn in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Birmingham, Michigan and Concord, Massachusetts, Anita Lo is co-owner and chef of Annisa in New York. Earlier this month, she won an Iron Chef America challenge against Mario Batali. She will appear on MTV this fall.

Her cooking mentor is David Waltuck, Executive Chef of New York’s Chanterelle restaurant, where she met and worked with her partner at her current restaurant, Jennifer Scism.

She enjoys cooking for many people but not catering.

Why is it important to Anita that a woman be chosen as White House Executive Chef? "Women rule."

What would Anita recommend as an airplane picnic? A muffaletta sandwich.

And her favorite cookbook is the old version of The Joy of Cooking.

Where does she enjoy traveling when she has the chance? "Anywhere and everywhere." And so it comes as no surprise to find out that, she were not a chef, Anita would be a travel writer.
