Chef John Bubala Votes Sarah Stegner

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

As readers continue to "Vote for White House Woman Chef," some include notes with their votes, of which one of the more eloquent follows, from Chicago:
Sarah StegnerSarah Stegner [of the Prairie Grass Cafe] is one of the most talented chef's in the city working today. She is warm, friendly, smart, honest and she is the champion for promoting local American products. She has got a very successful restaurant right now, but she would be able to showcase what American chef's are getting back to; local, ustainable produce and protein.

I have known Sarah for many years, and she cooks with a light touch without being too fussy. Her charm and poise would be the perfect foil for the testosterone-driven White House. She has been a driving force behind our local farmers market called the Green City Market. She would have Mrs. Bush digging up the front lawn and planting lettuces and herbs. That's how committed she is to getting the best possible product to the table.

Thank you for bringing to the public the awareness that all these chef's deserve. All of the chef's are qualified in their own way.

Long time reader, first time with feedback.

Sante - John Bubala, Chef/Owner, Thyme & Thyme Cafe
Thank you, John.

Readers might be interested to note that Sarah & Co. are supported by Elizabeth Stegner -- Sarah's mother. Mrs. Stegner started making pies for her family when she first got married 45 years ago. Dessert means "pie" in the Stegner family. "When my husband first wanted pie I started reading and reading and reading about how to make pie," she says on the Prairie Grass website, "and I learned to work quickly, use good ingredients, and keep my hands out... I like pie - it's very American."
