Marcus Samuelsson Hits Routes 66
By JULIETTE ROSSANT It is nice that Marcus Samuelsson of Aquavit is not doing another Reality TV show. Instead, he will be exploring The Meaning of Food in America, a travel show on WGBH 44 which airs in three parts Thursdays April 7, 14, and 21.Apparently, Marcus is a very recent addition to the show, since the show's current PBS website makes no mention or reference to his participation (click here to see). The food+travel theme, however, is hardly something new. Bobby Flay -- among a host of others on the Food Network -- has already combed America with Food Nation. Strangely, WGBH has Todd English taking a similar journey in the near future on Food Trip -- no air date yet, and one hopes (at least for Marcus' sake) that Todd's shows airs well after April. ![]() Further, isn't it a no-brainer that a chef from Ethiopia who grew up in Sweden should explore the meaning of food in the two rich cultures -- and then go on ever farther shores, like Bahrain or something? I'll settle for America for now from Marcus because I want to hear whether he sheds an interesting light on Food in this country, but after this mini-series I want something more along the lines of the Tamales World Tour. There is plenty done already on the States: let's get exotic! Previous articles: Bobby Flay: Married and Motivated Todd English Winner Gets "English is Italian"?
