One "Epi To Go," Please!

By JULIETTE ROSSANT

Epi to GoIf, heaven forbid, you don't have an iPod, and don't want to wait for Emeril's recipes (see previous article), Epicurious.com has a solution for you: "Epi To Go." They are billed as "wireless recipes" for your mobile phone. A help page is all set up to aid you in determining whether your phone is web-enabled -- an option you may have never even considered using before.

Epilady's EpiGirlWhile it sounds almost uncomfortably similar to any number of hair removal products like Epilady, "Epi To Go" is a free service that allows you to send Epicurious recipes directly to your cell phone. The service can access any of Epicurious.com's 18,000+ recipes through web-enabled phones. What do you do with that? How about send the recipes to your phone from the website so that you don't forget any ingredient while you are shopping?

The Epicurious.com website does have an amazing collection of recipes from the pool of CondeNast food and wine magazines. Unlike Emeril's ReciPods, these recipes seem appropriate to go wireless, because they are already clearly "wired" which is to say that they are already available online. It does not seem that "Epi To Go" will cannibalize any cookbook or magazine sales -- I for one still like to read the stories and recipes in hard copy. Most often, I find inspiration in a recipe but do not follow it very closely. Since I also like finding inspiration from what's in the market, having the recipes handy will just let my candle burn twice as bright. Meanwhile, CondeNast manages to place their brand names in more avenues of our lives.
